New Sight Words: New Sight Words for next week will be: today, week, and something. Please help your child learn to read, write, and spell our new words.

Math: We will continue the math unit called “Number Games and Crayon Puzzles.” Students will be learning games that help to build understanding of addition and subtraction around the number 10. We will be playing Dot Addition, working on story problems using addition and subtraction, and playing Five in a Row using cards.
Social Studies: Next week we will continue our unit “World of Work.” Students will be learning about Goods and Services. We will discuss the difference between goods jobs and service jobs.
Things to work on at Home: Please work with your child at home on telling time and counting money.
Special Notes:
*Conference Times are coming home today. Please let your child’s teacher know ASAP if you need to reschedule.
*BIST BIT: I accept the consequences!
A consequence is the result of a behavior. Consequences are different than punishment though at times they feel the same. Punishment is something that adults will give to a child, determine how long it lasts, and will give a fresh start when the time has been served. However, when a child is accepting consequences, adults do it for and with the child, the child’s behavior will determine how long it lasts, and the adult will teach the child the missing skills and protect them for as long as they need.
*Note from Mrs. Martin, guidance: For the next few weeks the 1st graders will be learning how to become good problem solvers. We will be using a curriculum called Kelso’s Choices. Our first task is to learn the difference between a small problem and a big problem. Small problems are things that give a feeling of mild annoyance, upset, left out or bothered. Big problems are things that create a strong feeling such as scared, threatened, worried or bullied. When we identify a big problem, our job is to get an adult. When we are experiencing small problems, we are going to choose two of Kelso’s nine choices to help us solve our problem. We will be practicing all nine choices. Hopefully, you will notice your child trying to be a good problem solver at home as well.
*Feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions, comments, or concerns!
